Dogs and the heat - Journal Online Article
The Journal's online news has put together a handy guide to help keep your dog safe when it's hot out.
Hot weather is a major seasonal risk for dogs. Unlike us, dogs can’t sweat much; they mainly cool off by panting, which makes them more prone to overheating than most people think. Every summer, lots of dogs get sick from the heat, and sadly, many don’t make it. Knowing how heat affects your dog, what their limits are, and how you can help is super important for any responsible dog owner.

Deserving dogs in our care that nobody wants!
We recently shared information about these two amazing dogs available for adoption, but we haven't received any enquiries.
Lola (picture) is an 8-year-old JRT who behaves much younger than her age. She is housetrained and loves her walks and cuddles, making her ideal for a retired person or couple seeking a loyal companion.
Alfie is a 1-year-old lab mix of medium size. He is energetic, enjoys playing and chasing his ball, and walks well on a lead. He is also housetrained. He would thrive in a home with children aged 10 ore older, he gets on well with other dogs.
An enclosed garden is essential. Both dogs are neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you can offer either of them a home, please call 086 8262986. An adoption fee and home check apply.
Please visit our adoption page for further details https://www.offalyspca.ie/foster-adopt on both dogs.

Thank you to the students of Ballyboy National School
The wonderful 5th & 6th class students, recently held an Enterprise Day where they made and sold crafts etc. to their school community. The students, together with their families choose two charities to send the proceeds of the event to. We were delighted to be told by the lovely Michelle, a teacher in Ballyboy National School, that we were one of the recipients.
All those involved with the OSPCA, especially the animals in our care, would like to sincerely thank the students, their families and Michelle for their generous donation.

Meet Lola - Available for Adoption
Meet Lola, the incredible lady who has transformed remarkably since she was found sleeping in a hotel doorway for days. When she first came to us, Lola was in a terrible state—just skin and bones, shivering, with poor dental health, and overbred. But thanks to the loving care of her foster mom, Jane, Lola has made an amazing recovery! She’s now house trained, gets along wonderfully with every dog she meets, and is full of life. She adores her walks, has excellent recall, and is a huge fan of food and car rides. Lola is a loving and friendly girl who’s ready for her forever home. She loves to play, so having a companion dog would be great, and she would also be perfect for a retired person or couple looking for a loyal and loving friend.
Lola has had dental work, is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. If you’re interested in giving this delightful lady the home she deserves, call 086 8262986. If adopting isn’t an option for you, please share this to help Lola find the loving home she needs!

Happy Mother's Day from your pet!
Mother’s Day can be a day on which we also celebrate the bond between our pets and their human Mums. We are sure if they could, they would thank you for the love, security and joy you bring into their lives every day. You can undertake some fun activities with your dog, and, as this writer plans to do, cuddle with her cats. Taking a walk in the park or sharing a special treat can be wonderful ways to show your appreciation for your furry companions. Happy Mother's Day, be they human or pet Mums, the two often go together with mutual loving.
